I’ll be the first to say that Dubai for all its pros and cons isn’t the place I’d expect to find witty graffiti or graffiti of any kind really. However I was pleasantly surprised one evening in Tecom to find the little gem above. Playful and perhaps prophetic the messages can be found in multiple locations mostly sprayed on construction site hoardings and concrete walls. Clandestine in their placement but poignant in their statements the scrawls sway between the playfully random and the grandiose commenting on the modern human experience. The anonymity of the writer is both admirable and in this particular city understandable, the only defining feature of continuity between these messages is the line and triangle. There might be more incidental messages dotted around the city related to this writer so keep them peeled. In the meantime, enjoy!

Mystery Writer Scrawling over Dubai

I’ve been seeing these around the city. There was also one that said ‘all paths lead to Sirius’. Great stuff. We will keep our eyes open for others.
Send any shots of spotted scrawl to andy@derive-online.com
cheers!
Writing what you think on a wall for all to see is a powerful expression of self. Especially when the penalties are high. So much more interesting than a pretty picture or a cool style. This is anger. In words. On a wall. Simple yet complex. Fascinating stuff.
